9th Letter to the American People
May 14, 2021
My Dear American Friends,
What is Freedom? Is it freedom of thought? Can we have freedom of thought if we are not educated on fact and steeped in a wisdom gained from living a life which we value? What of Liberty? Can we have this without having freedom of speech? The Bill of Rights makes certain that this is the Right of every citizen, so long as he does not shout “Fire” in a crowded building. Our speech can not physically hurt another. If it is, then it is less so speech and more so a veiled call to action. Perhaps not so veiled at times. Black Lives Matter rallies have chants calling for the death of police. Is this free speech? Is this freedom? Or something else?
Free speech is one of the most sacred of rights in a nation governed by its people, that the western concept of personal property and ownership is fully intertwined with it. Imagine a Communist nation where one can not speak out against the government. True to that he also can not own very much, if anything at all. Where we find speech prohibited, we too find personal property prohibited. So, the first thing a movement must do if it is a revolutionary one with the aims of transforming a nation or overthrowing a government is to control the speech. In our own modern world awash with media propaganda the effort is also to control thought, thus controlling the bounds of what one is and isn’t willing to say. This is the most awful truth of what a wicked government and those with which it aligns acts like.
The Chinese Communist government is a prime example of what a wicked government does to suppress speech even while “guaranteeing” it. Article 35 of the Chinese Constitution guarantees "Citizens of the PRC have freedom of speech, publication, assembly, association, procession and demonstration." What it does not indicate is that the media is tightly controlled by the government, and all publications must be vetted by the Communist state. While claiming Marxist origins, the government demands that anyone who wishes to act as a publisher must have an annual income of $35,000. This on its face excludes most of the nation, certainly the vast majority who are poor and have no voice. They also have strict laws on religion, and freedom of assembly. All of these laws are designed to limit either acceptable thought, thus limiting speech, or limit speech outright.
In our own western history, we see former European Kings and governments limiting speech through threat of arms and imprisonment. And in modern times European governments have adopted hates speech laws which stand in contrast to freedom of expression and academic inquiry. Today, our own government has worked in conjunction with the Tech Politburo to coordinate the boundaries of acceptable thought, thus limiting speech. They are actively working to limit negative speech about the practices of government and the Tech Politburo. It is true, people should speak to the positives of their own governments and those who are elected. However, we should have a government and elected officials who are worthy of praise. At present they are not. People are only as free as their own speech.
Government is little more than those entrusted by the people to carry out their own interests and affairs. All public matters are the essential business of the people and are to be carried out in a public manner with no secrecy. And every American that finds themselves in an elected position should WANT to carry out their duties in a publicly transacted manner. Only those who plan to do something illegal or against the will of the public need to veil their actions in any way. The people are to always be protected FROM government, not the other way around.
When a people have good, representative government it can be most easily seen by whether they have Freedom of Speech. If they do not, we can see this by what they can and cannot say, and by who is acting to stop them from saying or thinking it. And most often as evidenced by history, when a nation of people who lack or have curtailed freedom of speech erupt into violence, it is the government who precipitated the matter.
The enemy of Freedom of Speech is never as apparent in its action as speech taken under liberty. Look at Washington, Adams, and Jefferson. These men had little to fear from freedom of speech and published papers, sought discourse, fought against tyranny, and made for us – YOU AND ME – a nation whose very Bill of Rights cements Free Speech for all people. And by his conduct and the satisfaction that the people of this nation felt for him, George Washington was known as a man who was “First in War, First in Peace, and First in the Hearts of his Countrymen.” No man who ever limited freedom of speech or freedom of thought would have been eulogized in such a way by the nation in which he served.
But things now have taken a turn. With the loss of some of our liberties, the infiltration of education by Critical Race Theory, and Maoist & Marxist doctrine even the very name Washington is seen as problematic. Words have begun to be feared and restricted as they edge closer to the tongue of everyday citizens. We have among us a poisonous group of individuals who seek to subvert American liberty and destroy freedom of speech by attacking those who should think for themselves.
The very best among us have always promoted Freedom of Speech: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Martin Luther King, Jr., Clarence Thomas, Thomas Sowell, Jordan Peterson. The brightest minds among us clamor the right of the regular person to have their voice and not be persecuted by governing bodies or corporations whose power rivals most any government that currently exists. And people will rise up to defend these well-known figures because they have taken measures to defend us. It really is a blessing and rarity on earth to live within a time that you can think as you wish and speak as you think.
You know it is probably true that those currently in the seat of power would prefer shutting the mouths of the everyman before ceding their vast empires of wealth and influence. Those that would do this are traitors in the truest form. Those who represent the people and defend their ability to think and speak have no one to fear except those among their own elected peers who should see them banished for not acting as an Establishmentarian. We must be willing and able without reproach to think as we wish and speak as we think. Anything else is dishonest, destructive, and a form of dominant power exercised by a corrupt master.
