The Leedstown Resolves — or Leedstown Resolutions — is a document that organized the Westmoreland Association, for the purpose of resisting the Stamp Act and ensuring Virginians in Westmoreland County did not comply with the law. The document was written by Richard Henry Lee and signed at Leedstown, Virginia on February 27, 1766. The Westmoreland Association is considered to be one of the first groups that were formally organized to resist British policies. Other groups, like the Sons of Liberty and Daughters of Liberty, were loose organizations that were not formally documented. The Leedstown Resolves and the Westmoreland Association were similar in nature to the Continental Association which was established by the First Continental Congress with the signing of the Articles of Association. The Westmoreland Association was successful in obstructing the enforcement of the Stamp Act and the use of stamped paper.
What would such a document look like today if it were to be written in an attempt to bind Americans against the greatest threats posed by big government today? Below is a modern interpretation of just what that may look like when faced with an ever growing and unbelievably corrupt federal government.
THE LEEDSTOWN RESOLVES REIMAGINED
JULY 13, 2023
Galvanized by corruption and dismayed by actions of the federal government to reduce the people of this country to a state of servitude and fearful serfdom by turning the surveillance state inward thus enslaving the once free sentiments of a nation and arresting their attempts to peaceably alter government in its most contemptible forms, We, who subscribe to this publication, now associate and bind ourselves to each other, to God, and to good government of the people, by the unyielding bond that is born in Christ and passed down through Traditional Western Values, sacredly here we stand with, as our founders did before us, our lives, fortunes, and sacred honor to defend each other in the resistance of corrupt government and in the reformation of the same though the following acts –
FIRST: We declare our unyielding allegiance to the Constitution of the United States of America. We determine that to our greatest ability we will work to preserve the very best of our national inheritance, its laws, practices, and social morays to the good order of Traditional American Families, as much as is consistent with the preservation of our Constitutional Rights and our Liberty.
SECONDLY: As in accordance with the Natural Order of Mankind, the Constitution, and Bill of Rights (and that the people who subscribe here being of such birthright) that equality under the law, due process, and a Department of Justice that is equal in its protections and punishments regardless of any considerations be they political, social, or otherwise is our aim; that the Congress is derelict in its duties, must return to its original obligation of conducting the business of the people, must once again control the purse strings of our Treasury in a sound and balanced manner, must stop taxation for the unlimited support of omnipresent government, and must cease in binding tax dollars to foreign governments, as well as Supranational Organizations and entities; that to deprive the common citizen of these things, we will regard any individual, as the most dangerous and contemptible enemy of the common man, and in our tireless efforts will work to make the efforts of these individuals ineffectual and impotent while working simultaneously to expose such treacherous individuals with all due haste.
THIRDLY: That the unlimited funding of foreign wars and the military industrial complex is an absurd abuse of power inconsistent with the principles of 'life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness' in all its forms and ways. That the apparatus that enmeshes, supports, and extends from this gross absurdity must be brought to heel, disarmed, defunded, and disbanded for the betterment of all mankind. That We, as citizens of this nation, will exert every faculty, examine each avenue, and work every angle to prevent the execution of unlimited wars and foreign aid in its currently abusive form. That by refusing to support any and all who are associated with this foreign money laundering complex, we will avoid the dangers of war, illicit spy craft, and the unholy barbarism associated with those who lead and execute our pedestrian and unremarkable foreign policy machine.
FOURTHLY: That, to further ensure that last article is most faithfully executed, we refuse to serve in any capacity as agents of this government unless it be a role that acts in strict and unflinching defiance to that terrible machine, and (as any stay-behind asset does) acts to slow and impede at every instance; that our children will be dissuaded from serving in her military and armed roles of federal government and its surveillance apparatus, and that our daily actions are ones that do not serve the corrupt ends of the foreign policy establishment in any way.
FIFTHLY: That each reader shall do his best to forward this article to as many Constitutionally minded Americans as is possible.
SIXTHLY: That if any reader of this publication who faithfully abides by these acts finds themselves unlawfully attacked, imprisoned, or detained; or publicly shamed by those who wish to grow a woke and unsound future, that we will work feverishly to restore their good names, their liberty, and their natural rights so they may freely pass the same down to their posterity.
In testimony of the good faith with which we resolve to execute this association, and by the power of God Almighty and the natural rights of mankind so enshrined in our Constitution, we share these acts freely and wish to observe them faithfully as American citizens.
